Supporters of Tirirtiri Matangi

Dear Barbara and Mary-Ann

Thank you both for all the good things you’ve done to get us to Tiritiri Matangi island. Also thanks to the amazing volunteers. The volunteers taught us how birds and  trees are conserved. In my group, Irene, taught us how the pests can get to the island. She also taught us which animals were endangered. On the island, I enjoyed looking around at the trees and listening to the beautiful sounds of the birds.

The 360 discoveries were awesome too.  Our class loved the ride on the ferry.

Thank you Irene, Barbara and Mary-Ann.

At the zoo.

One beautiful morning, Glen Innes School went to the zoo in the bus. When we got out we had to go into three groups. In my group, I had Melissa, Mrs Mere, Tupou F, and Maia. The first animal that we saw was a giraffe and the last animal that we saw was the tiger. The tiger was the best animal that I saw. Then we got to play on the big slide. It was awesome at the zoo looking at the animals at the zoo.

I wish that I could be allowed to touch the tiger for real.

Elephant bath

Yesterday on the 20th November, Room 9 created cartoons using an elephant getting bitten from a crocodile.

I really enjoy making these cartoons.

On this work, I was learning how to make my own pamphlet.
Tiritiri Matangi

This island is a protected island. It has most of the endangered birds on this island.

There are many people who help to conserve the birds and plants on this island.

Irene is a helper in Tirirtiri Matangi  island. She helps to conserve and look after the birds and plants.

The birds and plants are very important to us.

The Bell bird can be seen at the Tirirtiri Matangi island.

The long tailed cuckoo  bird is sometimes seen on the island.

Studying

In this snap shot, it shows what I've have been learning and what I've been doing.

The first snap shot is a game called Study ladder. Study Ladder is full of fun games and lots of points to be earned and spent. You earn your points by playing games and winning.

The second snap shot is about sumdog. Sumdog is so fun that when you play sumdog it will blow your   mind . On this game you get to rank yourself up to different level. The way to play this game is to complete the sums on the screen. If you get the answer right then you will earn more money if you get the answer wrong then you will not earn much money.

Asiana learn's basic facts

Every day in room 9, we study our basic facts in the morning.Basic facts helps me with my divisions, multiplication and many other strategies. In some days, I improve my work by learning my maths.

Fractions in room9

Asiana does maths online.

This is a screenshot of my extension exercise. I had been learning how to solve multiplication and division problems by splitting the factors. I used this strategy in this maths game I played on Sumdog.

Asiana Reads online

We need lollies in our lunch box.

Mr Naidoo, I  choose that if we are allowed to have lollies in our lunch box because for the past 3 years you have been telling the whole school that we were band of bringing lollies to school. Did you know lollies give us sugar high, makes your breath smell refreshing and gives you more energy. We know it can make us fat, but when we get high we can also burn of the sugar.

Firstly I think that room 9 should take lollies to school only because we never had junk food. Plus we are always good in class . Also we never muck around with the teacher.

Secondly it will make your breath smell like mintys.

Thirdly when you  work you can work fast and finish faster.

So please let only room 9 put lollies in our lunch box and take  lollies to school.

swimming sports.

Last week on the Friday 15th, I took part of swimming sports. In the morning room 9 had to get changed into our togs. We were really excited that we were going to go in the pool. After that Mr Ramkolowan told room 9 to be quiet so he can put us in our house. I was in Wairua. Next we had to walk outside and sit in our house. Then we walked to the pool and sat under our gazebo. l waited until the bell rang. By then I knew that l was already in the finals. I was so happy.

How to make toys.

How toys work.

This toy is a winding toy. This insect is from a factory. It has a spring inside the it so that the toy can move. It has wide holes in it’s body so it would make space for the legs to travel.

How to make cogs.

Yesterday on the 25th of March, room 9 was making cogs out of cardboard. We first cut out a circle. Next we had to draw a smaller circle inside the cardboard. Then we had to use the ruler to measure the tooth part of the cog. After that we had to make a cut in the cardboard following a pattern. Then we had to stick our own pencils in the middle of the cog so it would overlap with the other cog. At the end we took a picture of us with our cog.

This is me

Kia ora my name is Asiana and I am 10 yrs old.  I was born in a awesome hospital named Middlemore in Auckland. I live in Glen Innes, Auckland. I am of Maori and Niuean cultures. I have 3 brothers, 1 sister and my parents. I am the second to last child in my family.

The things that I like are chocolate, purple and black colours, butter chicken, running, fruit, puppies, studying, and being with my friends. My friends are Melissa, Maia, Tupou , Tainah , Tupou Rose, Siua , and Angelina. I like chocolate because it is delicious. I like studying because I like to learn about the world. I also like fruit because it keeps me healthy and the fruit are tasty. I like butter chicken because  it is a delicious curry.

I am not very good at sports, swimming, athletics, softball and maths. I don't like sports because it is too hard. Maths is hard because I find the strategies impossible to learn. However, I am trying very hard to master this.

Seagulls in our school

Seagulls

One morning mother bird said to her children “ ok now children, i’m going to find some dinner for  the family.”
So mother bird flew high up in the air, through the cold wind. Then mother bird went over the water and saw some fresh fish. she picked it up and took the fish to the green grass. Meanwhile there was a big mean bird that wanted to steel mother birds food. mother bird said “ Oh please big mighty bird please don’t take my food. I want to give it to my family.” But the big mighty bird never listened. So mother bird pulled and pulled but the big bird was too strong. Then mother bird had a plan .she waited until the big bird got tired. next the bird let the fish go and flew away. then the mother bird go home safely.
